Feb-00 Standard procedures for workflow I am working on a project to verify the integration of a workflow management system into public administration. Is there a standardised process for such an evaluation? I can see from the steps you are describing that you are going along the right lines.
For more information, I would suggest that you refer to the WfMC "Workflow Handbook"
David Stirrup
Mar-00 Stand-alone and embedded workflow management systems whitepaper I had trouble with fonts when trying to download the freely accessible whitepaper entitled, 'Stand-alone and embedded workflow management systems.'  I am greatly interested in reading this report, and I was wondering if you could find out if there is another version that I could reference. This document was provided to me in PDF format so I can only offer the same to you. I am attaching it in the hopes that this will avoid your font problem. You might want to ensure that you have the latest available Acrobat reader. Let me know if you continue to encounter difficulties and we'll resort to the authors to obtain the original WinWord document. Layna Fishcer (General Manager, WfMC)
Mar-00 Interopability definitions I am a student in ASU researching a project to develop a workflow system, divided into three parts. We need to implement Interoperable definitions, i.e, we are the "definer" group, and need some help in designing the Interfaces for our system. Where can I get these? We are using java to develop the system and JINI and java spaces to develop it as a distributed model. I would appreciate any links or interfaces. If you are looking for a specification of process definition components (i.e. the definition of the business process to be interpreted by runtime workflow software during process enactment) then check out the Interface 1 spec (Process Definition Interchange) on our web site (this is generic, but an XML working draft is also available). We also defined an interface for manipulating objects within the process definition (this is in our interface 2/3 specification - WAPI). If you are interested in interoperabily protocols these are specified in Interface 4. (all at http://www.wfmc.org.) I'm afraid being a trade body we don't distribute code, but I hope the above references will help. Dave Hollingsworth (WfMC TC Chair)
Mar-00   I am reading Terminology & Glossary which  refers to a discussion paper call Common Object Model, but I can not find it on your web site. Can someone email me the paper? Please visit our web site at http://www.aiim.org/wfmc/standards/docs.htm Layna Fishcer (General Manager, WfMC)
Mar-00 Costs/benefits of Workflow I am researching workflow and return on investment. Are there any studies about costs/benefits of Workflow? Please visit our web site at http://www.aiim.org/wfmc/standards/docs.htm where you may find information to help you with your research. I also suggest that you review the case studies found in the Excellence in Practice series. These were published in three volumes to date and details can be found at the WARIA website, http://www.waria.com/eip1.htm Layna Fishcer (General Manager, WfMC)
Mar-00 WfMC e-mail list I am interested to know if the WfMC has a rental e-mail list? Unfortunately, the WfMC does not rent its list. WARIA, on the other hand, has a large rental list of mostly users and integrators. Details are at http://www.waria.com/vend-op.html. Please let us know what you need the list for and we’ll try to figure out the best list for you. Layna Fishcer (General Manager, WfMC)
Apr-00 MBA in Workflow I am researching "evaluation of workflow systems" at my parent company Standard Life and am working with AWD software. My studies would benefit greatly from insight into the use of Workflow systems, in related and unrelated organisations. Can you provide me with further information from the WfMC on Workflow Systems? In particular I am keen to obtain case studies and reference to journals/ texts / papers relating to the stated, perceived and realised benefits that Workflow Software provides, with particular emphasis on the financial services industry. It sounds as though you would benefit greatly from the Excellence in Practice series.  www.waria.com/eip3.htm) which are packed with very detailed award-winning case studies. Student membership in WARIA is available to full-time students only. The list of WfMC published documents can be found at http://www.aiim.org/wfmc/standards/docs.htm. The WfMC does not offer student membership.
Apr-00 Workflow application statistics I am just finishing my thesis on a workflow topic and would like to spread over some statistical information about the use / field of application of workflow applications. Do you know where I can get any up-to-date statistics? AIIM recently published a workflow survey by Gartner Group. The results are contained in a chapter called "The Workflow Market  in 1999 and Beyond" by Priscilla Emery in Excellence in Practice Vol III. (www.waria.com/eip3.htm). This whole book will be very helpful to you. The WfMC also conducted a user survey recently and the interim report can be found on a link from our home page, or directly at  http://www.aiim.org/wfmc/wug/wug.htm . Layna Fishcer (General Manager, WfMC)
Apr-00 Reference sites for Workflow and Document Management I am presently carrying out a Research Project entitled "The Evaluation of Workflow and Document Management in SME's". Although the research is primarily targeted at SME's, I would also like to include larger companies in the research. Therefore, I am not necessarily restricting the research to SME's. I  visited your Web site and saw that you were also providing information for the users of workflow systems as well as the developers of the systems. Can you provide me with names and addresses of reference sites?  It sounds as though you would benefit greatly from the Excellence in Practice series (www.waria.com/eip3.htm), which are packed with very detailed award-winning case studies. They can be purchased online from WARIA. The list of WfMC published documents can be found at http://www.aiim.org/wfmc/standards/docs.htm. I am sure that you will find what you need between these two sites. Layna Fishcer (General Manager, WfMC)
Apr-00 Internet Process Mapping I'm looking for resources that map out the business processes executed in today's digital marketplaces, particularly processes between buyers and sellers in the vertical market sites on the Internet. Can you help? If you haven't already, please visit our web site at: http://www.aiim.org/wfmc/standards/docs.htm where you will find the list of published documents. Meanwhile I am copying your question to the Chairman of the Technical Committee and others active in our Working Groups for specific answers. Layna Fishcer (General Manager, WfMC)
Apr-00 Errors on document Stand-alone and embeded workflow management systems The white paper by Michael zur Muehlen & Rob Allen, Stand-alone and embedded workflow management systems, distinguishes, at a high level, the differences between workflow engines and simple trigger routines. Its main function is to clarify the segmentation between autonomous and embedded workflow deployment. It has encoding errors making it unreadable. Can you fix it? I am attaching the original PDF document, which should work. The errors you get could be the result of your not having the most recent version of the Acrobat reader. Layna Fishcer (General Manager, WfMC)
May-00 Error in PDF document I am having trouble opening document,   http://www.aiim.org/wfmc/standards/docs/MzM_RA_WfMC_WP_Embedded_and_Autonomous_Workflow.pdf. Do you include HTML versions with each PDF document? I’m sorry that you’ve been having problems with this file. Do you have the most recent version of Acrobat Reader? Using older versions of PDF turns out to be the most common problem that people experience when attempting to download this file. We do not have these documents available in HTML because many of then are in excess of 30 pages, which would take ages to download. PDF format also provides security in the event of people attempting to copy the document. Layna Fishcer (General Manager, WfMC)
May-00 Model RFP I was wondering if your organization had a 'model' RFP or portions of one that existed on standards for Workflow/Document Management and Imaging.  A team of us are working on such a project, to begin in the City's area of Personnel, hiring process, form processing, etc.  If so, would it be possible to obtain a copy?  I do not have information relating specifically to HR workflow situations, however, I am copying your question to the Chairman of the Technical Committee and others active in our Working Groups for their advice on appropriate HR sites they may be aware of. I would also suggest that you review the government case studies found in the "Excellence in Practice" series. These were published in three volumes to date and details can be found at the WARIA website, http://www.waria.com/eip1.htm. Layna Fishcer (General Manager, WfMC)
May-00 Integrating Workflow into web based services Can I get an update on your standards process? I'm particularly interested in what's happening with respect to vendors developing conforming versions of their products and developing a conformance suite. Also, it
would be interesting to talk with somebody about some of the issues. Can you suggest analysts or vendor contacts who seem to be particularly in touch with these issues?
If you attend a forthcoming Expo, we could introduce you directly to several vendors active in the area of your research. The WfMC would also be happy to make an appointment for you with Rob Allen, our External Relations Committee Chair. Layna Fishcer (General Manager, WfMC)
May-00 Workflow methodology I am a student needing information re the standards of Workfllow methodology. Can you please help? If you haven't already, please visit our web site at: <http://www.aiim.org/wfmc/standards/docs.htm> where you will find the list of published documents and workflow standards. Layna Fishcer (General Manager, WfMC)
Jun-00 Documentation on Resource Model I would like to know if there is any documentation on the Resource Model which Michael zur Muehlen is talking about? If so, I would like to receive a copy.
Jun-00 TC-1016-Y document  I'm looking for the document number TC-1016-Y referred to in "A LEX and YACC Version for WPDL". (It was referred to in document number WfMC TC-1016-P, Interface 1: Process Definition Interchange Process Model, section 8.2.) If you haven't already, please visit our web site at: http://www.aiim.org/wfmc/standards/docs.htm where you will find the list of published documents Layna Fishcer (General Manager, WfMC)
Jun-00 WfMC conformance Siemens (SNI) were involved in WfMC work, but have since left and there have been substantial changes in their standards, although conformance is still claimed, although not approved. Can you tell me if this is the case? The compliancy statements were for vendor self declaration statements of conformity. Since then there is a conformance testing capability which has been set up by the WfMC for MIME interoperability and (just being introduced) XML based interoperability.  Work Party has not gone through such testing. If SNI are claiming "conformance" you need ensure which of the interfaces and conformance classes are claimed to be supported and assess whether there is good evidence for this - bearing in mind that for many of
the key calls and protocols it is now possible to test conformance by product test at the conformance test site.
Dave Hollingsworth (WfMC TC Chair)
Jun-00 IF1 and IF2/3  I am a student wishing to develop a product to conform to your interface standards. The product I have developed supports IF1 and IF2/3. I would like to compare this with other products claiming conformance,  such as IBM's FlowMark, but am not clear as to what aspects should be compared. Can you help please? If you haven't already, please visit our web site at: http://www.aiim.org/wfmc/standards/docs.htm where you will find the list of published documents. Meanwhile I am copying your question to the Chairman of the Technical Committee and others active in our Working Groups to reply to you with specific answers. Layna Fishcer (General Manager, WfMC)
Jun-00 Workflow Management I am a journalist writing an article about document management, KM and workflow management  - software products. Do you have any lists, reports or articles that review various software packages in these fields, maybe with a rating or description? Any information of software products in this field would be appreciated. I am copying Martin Ader, author of the Workflow Comparative Study, which contains exactly the information you need. You may read more about it at ttp://www.waria.com/workflow_comparative_study.htm
If you have specific products on which you require data, I am sure that Mr Ader will be pleased to help you
Layna Fishcer (General Manager, WfMC)
Jun-00 methodologies I am looking for various methodologies for organisational development / change management, with the view to paying royalties for their use... could you help me on how to source these? If you haven't already, I strongly recommend that you visit the web site of our sister organization, the Workflow Management Coalition, at: http://www.aiim.org/wfmc/standards/docs.htm where you will find the list of published documents. You should also consider purchasing “New Tools for New Times: The Workflow Paradigm,” which covers the topics that you are interested in. Please visit www.waria.com Layna Fishcer (General Manager, WfMC)
Jun-00 TC-1016-Y document I need a copy of your document no: WfMC TC-1016-Y, how can I get it? If you haven't already, please visit our web site at: http://www.aiim.org/wfmc/standards/docs.htm where you will find the list of published documents. Meanwhile I am attaching the document you requested but ask that you remember that it is a working document, not a final one.
Jun-00 TC-1016-Y document Could I please get a copy of document number TC-1016-Y which is referred to in TC-1016-P? If you haven't already, please visit our web site at: http://www.aiim.org/wfmc/standards/docs.htm where you will find the list of published documents. Layna Fishcer (General Manager, WfMC)
Jun-00 Workflow for the web I am in the process of researching workflow for the web, and have found information on you website regarding "white papers" (excellent) but not much about workflow for the web. What is the WfMC doing in using the web; can you help? Many thanks for your message and your interest in the work of the WfMC.If you haven't already, please visit our web site at: http://www.aiim.org/wfmc/standards/docs.htm where you will find the list of published documents. Layna Fishcer (General Manager, WfMC)
Jun-00 ISO standards of WfMC reference model I am a PhD student, working on Workflow concepts, using the WfMC reference model. Is this model already recognized as an ISO standard or is there a working process trying to achieve this? I am copying our member who handles the ISO standards, Betsy Fanning, who will respond to you directly Layna Fishcer (General Manager, WfMC)
Jul-00 Data Interoperability The Washington State Division of Archives and Records Management is exploring various concepts and technologies to further data interoperability between organizations.  I wish to discuss our initiatives with a group leader in WFMC appropriate to the concept. I would appreciate receiving contact information to facilitate this exchange. I chair the WfMC Technical Committee so please use me as a technical interface in the first instance. We have several working groups active in the standardisation of different aspect of workflow behaviour so I can point you at one of these more specialist WGs for detailed Qs Dave Hollingsworth (WfMC TC Chair)
Jul-00 Workflow technology I am a student interested in Workflow technology. I have downloaded all of the public documents of the www.wfmc.org, but can't find the organisation model specification (the file number is TC-1016-O). Where would I find it? Could you also please tell me if in the reference model, the applications interfaces 2 & 3 are the same or different? Are Office 98, AutoCAD 14 the workflow client applications? Do the workflow client applications include the Process definiton tool and the application programmed for the users to complete the process activity? I am pleased to attach the requested document, but ask that you recognize that is a working document and as such is not a final version. Should you have any questions or comments regarding the document, please do not hesitate to contact [email protected] Layna Fishcer (General Manager, WfMC)
Jul-00 Workflow Award I found the url http://www.w4.fr/en/index.html which explains the award and the basis for the award.  I will need to study this information further, but this is certainly a better track than the one I was on yesterday. I sent you some info separately about the workflow comparative study (http://www.waria.com/workflow_comparative_study.htm), and the Excellence in Practice series, wherein the case studies arising from the award winners are posted. Layna Fishcer (General Manager, WfMC)
Jul-00 Errors on document WfMC TC-1016-X Ver 1 Re : WfMC TC-1016-X : Ver 1  : I wish to point out that there are some minor problems with the document published on the web.
   1. On page 19 - finance diagram, information was lost due to the resizing.
   2. Page 20 - blank. I believe it should detail all the remaining activity lists for finance.
   3. Page 21 - incomplete information on the transition information.
Do you have a complete document? I am depending on WfMC's workflow standardization to create new workflow software.
When we attached the requested document, we asked that you recognize that is a working document and as such is not a final version. We do not yet have a final version for public distribution, I'm sorry.

Jul-00 The Key to E-Commerce and Process Scalability article I am researching IF4 and I downloaded an article called, "The key to E-Commerce and to process Scalability"  (if4article.pdf) from the WfMC website. As it had no date or author specified, I have had trouble finding it again. Can you help?  If you haven't already, please visit our web site at: http://www.aiim.org/wfmc/standards/docs.htm, where you will find the list of published documents including if4article.pdf . You would cite the Workflow Management Coalition's Working Group on I4 together with the URL of the document. Layna Fishcer (General Manager, WfMC)
Jul-00 Standards document I am looking for the WfMC standards document WFMC-TC-1016-Y, which contains a lex and yacc version of the WPDL language. I cannot find this document on the WfMC web site. Is this document available to non-members? If so, how may I obtain it? I am pleased to attach the requested document, but ask that you recognize that is a working document and as such is not a final version. Should you have any questions or comments regarding the document, please do not hesitate to contact [email protected] Layna Fishcer (General Manager, WfMC)
Jul-00 ebXML I have been looking the ebXML Requirements Specification and the WfMC´s Workflow Reference Model. After studying these documents I read two more documents about business processes. In all these documents there is something about business process definition.

Main question: what the difference between these process definitions?
- are these process definitions for different usage?
- is ebXML more to external usage between organisations?
- is wfXML more to internal usage in a single organisation?
There is a great deal of commonality. The WfMC process definition attempts to provide a generic capability which is equally applicable for internal processes within one organisation, or for a process which spans several organisations. The other underpinning principle behind the WfMC work is that the process definition can be encoded in a machine interpretable form to support automation on a different platform to the definition work  (i.e. it is as much as interchange specification as a modelling approach). There is a corresponding specification (Wf-XML) which defines the runtime interactions between process automation systems to support process enactment across multiple domains (either within or between organisations).
We have not attempted to address the wider e-commerce contract management issues other than guidance on interoperability contracts between organisations.  There appears to be a lot in this area in the ebXML work. There is scope for some commonality of approach - possibility for some joint discussion.
discussion at the XML World event in Boston, perhaps?

Jul-00 SWAP sites I need help with SWAP (simple workflow access protocol). Do you have any suggestions? Also, with using Wf-XML version 1.0, should I use Process Definition Create Process Instance Request or only Create Process Instance Request as my XML element? The Chairman of the SWAP working group is Michael Oliver whom you can contact at: <mailto:[email protected]> [email protected] and the SWAP working group page is at  <http://www.ics.uci.edu/~ietfswap/>http://www.ics.uci.edu/~ietfswap/
We also recommend that you also use our web site (<http://www.wfmc.org/> http://www.wfmc.org) to find those companies who are concerned with the SWAP protocol.  I recommend looking at the WfMC Wf-XML spec at www.wfmc.org
<http://www.wfmc.org> . This was developed from the original SWAP proposals, complete and being implemented by several vendors.

Aug-00 Questions about the WfMC TC 1016-P document On page 14 of the WfMC TC 1016-P document, you quote, "3.1.1.5. Organisational Model....This first version of specification does not include a fully standardised specification for either OM or process history functions; such functions can be realised by use of the extended library function."
- Will the second specification be a separate document, or will the WfMC TC-1016-P -document revised to version 2x?
- What is the estimated schedule to specify the second specification?
- Is there any plans about the second specification?
Our current intention is to:
1.  separate out the Process Definition meta-model as a separate document, make reference to interfaces such as Organisation / Resource model (on which
the WfMC now has a separate WG) and to develop a formal representation in UML. This will generally closely follow the existing TC-1016 functions.
2. complete an alternative encoding of the process definition in XML (to replace/augment the existing WPDL).
3. Provide a separate definition document for resource model (A draft of this already exists in WG9 (Michael zur Muhlen - [email protected])
Our timescales are driven partly by activity in the OMG (resource assignment is currently at RFP stage; process definition model is as draft RFP). I would expect a decent draft of all the above during Q4 this year.

Aug-00 Relationship between Wf-XML schema and Biztalk (MS) product. I'm unclear about the relationship between the Wf-XML schema and microsoft's biztalk product. If I want to adopt the schema, am I obligated to use the microsoft biztalk server? Your web site states that the WfMC controls the schema, which begs the question, on what basis is Microsoft invovled with the schema's design?  The Biztalk web site just happens to provide a repository in which organisation can lodge public XML schemas. Wf-XML operates directly between participating systems; a Biztalk server is not involved in such exchanges. FYI the Wf-XML DTD is also lodged in the Oasis xml web site (www.xml.org). The Workflow mgt Coalition retains control over the Wf-XML schema. Dave Hollingsworth (WfMC TC Chair)
Aug-00 Looking for WfMC IDL Binding I am looking for a complete electronic copy of the "OMG IDL Binding" referenced in section 8.3,  page 114 of document WFMC-TC-1009, "Workflow Management Application Programming Interface (Interface 2&3) Specification." I am unclear as to whether this is the complete IDL binding. Does a complete IDL binding for the WfMC interfaces exists in another document?  If you haven't already, please visit our web site at: http://www.aiim.org/wfmc/standards/docs.htm where you will find the list of published documents. You should also try the OMG web site at www.omg.org for the OMG document you seek. Layna Fishcer (General Manager, WfMC)
Aug-00 Real XML definition of WPDL My question is about *real* XML-definition of the WPDL. The interface 1 definition does not include example(s) in XML. We are currently : - separating out the Process Definition meta-model as a separate document, make reference to interfaces such as Organisation / Resource model (on which the WfMC now has a separate WG) and to develop a formal representation in UML. This will generally closely follow the existing TC-1016 functions.
- completing an alternative encoding of the process definition in XML (to replace/augment the existing WPDL).
- providing a separate definition document for resource model (A draft of this already exists in WG9 (Michael zur Muhlen - [email protected])

Our timescales are driven partly by activity in the OMG (resource assignment is currently at RFP stage; process definition model is as draft RFP). I would expect a decent draft of all the above during Q4 this year.

Aug-00 Information about Optika Is the workflow of Optika in the WfMC standard?  Companies that claim conformance to WfMC standards can be found at:http://www.aiim.org/wfmc/standards/conformance.htm. Other than this we have no way of knowing whether Optika's products conform or not, because they are not on the list. They are Guest Members of the WfMC and I am copying their representatives, Steve Maegdlin and Bill Kearney, on this note so that they can confirm their situation with you. Layna Fishcer (General Manager, WfMC)
Aug-00 BizTalk compatibility I'd like to get information about your compatibility with BizTalk, I need take a decision about what king of XML model use for my workflow software.
Aug-00 Research on Workflow I am doing research on workflow for a localization company. We are trying to determine who the customers of workflow products are (what types of industries, what size companies, where are they located, etc). Can you help? A lot of the information you seek can be found in the Excellence in Practice series at http://www.waria.com/books-wf1.htm, by WARIA (Workflow And Reengineering International Association). You should also investigate the reports available from www.aiim.org. Layna Fishcer (General Manager, WfMC)
Aug-00 Interest in Workflow I work for a localization company and we have developed an interest in workflow.  We are trying to determine who the customers of workflow products are (industry types, sizes, location etc). Can you help me?  A lot of the information you seek can be found in the Excellence in Practice series at http://www.waria.com/books-wf1.htm, by WARIA (Workflow And Reengineering International Association). You should also investigate the reports available from www.aiim.org. Because of your interest in our work, you should consider becoming a member of the Coalition. Aug-00 XML Interchange VI specification We would like to align our work to your standards, and I am writing to ask if you have a standard XML DTD for Process Definition Language We do not have at present a completed XML DTD covering process definition interchange; this is still an area in which work in ongoing. Our original draft document can be used in conjunction with the existing Process Definition metamodel (I/F 1 Specification) to provide an indication of the direction of this work. Dave Hollingsworth (WfMC TC Chair)
Aug-00 The XML model  and compatibility with BizTalk I am planning to develop a WfMC-standard conformant workflow-engine for LINUX released under the GNU GPL. Your homepage makes reference to process definition interchange in document WFMC-TC-1016-P. I am not a member of the WfMC but would like to know if it could be made available to me We would be pleased to let you have the necessary document and have attached it for your use, but please remember that it is a working document and therefore not a final document. Dave Hollingsworth (WfMC TC Chair)
Aug-00 Technical implementations of the WfMC model I am a student working on conceptually modelling aspects of the chain supply, in particular,  VMI, ECR and
CPFR.  I intend using the WfMC model and would like to look at technological implementations. Would it be possible to have at a look at the internal pages?
If you haven't already, please visit our web site at: http://www.aiim.org/wfmc/standards/docs.htm where you will find the list of published documents including the interface. To benefit fully from our resources, you may consider membership where you can have access not only to keep abreast of developments but also to our "members only" sector. Layna Fishcer (General Manager, WfMC)
Aug-00 Questions about standard number 5 We are students, wanting to develop standard number 5, Administration and Monitoring Tools. Are there any existing documents about the administration of users and roles? There is an incomplete specification document that may help - on Administration functions, in which part 9 includes something on administration of Participants and Role Management Functions Dave Hollingsworth (WfMC TC Chair)
Aug-00 Specification document for FDL I would like to know if you have a specification document outlining the complete standard for the Flow Definition Language (FDL). I can't seem to find this anywhere on your site. It depends what you mean by Flow Definition Language. In the WfMC architecture, the flow is represented within the Process Definition (as a series of activity nodes and transitions between them, and/or to/from
separate sub-processes).  The specification language for this (WPDL) is fully documented in the Process Definition Interchange specification (I/F 1) available as a download from www.wfmc.org; we are currently evaluating an alternative, based on the same underlying meta-model, using XML as the specification language.

Do you a model to analyze a Workflow system implementated in any company in the credit card industry (acquiring) which contains both information about benefits and return on investment ? If you haven't already, please visit our web site at: http://www.aiim.org/wfmc/standards/docs.htm where you will find the list of published documents. You should also read the case studies on financial services organizations and other white papers that can be found in the “Excellence in Practice” series. (http://www.waria.com/eip1.htm) The new Workflow Handbook 2001 will give you a great deal of information about Workflow Management Systems. Layna Fishcer (General Manager, WfMC)
Sep-00 Conformance Testing I have also been asked to find out about conformance testing. Who can I talk to about having software we write labeled as conformant or non-conformant w/ the standards that you, the OMG and any other standards body in the area have ratified? The requirements for conformance are stated in each specification, including, where appropriate, multiple conformance classes. It is the responsibility of the working group dealing with the specification to establish such conformance criteria for subsequent approval by the WfMC. Conformance testing activities are centred on the University of Muenster in Germany, where facilities are currently available for interoperability using the MIME standard and work in is hand to provide an initial Wf-XML testing capability later this year.  Michael zur Muhlen leads this work on behalf of the WfMC. Dave Hollingsworth (WfMC TC Chair)
Sep-00   I desperately require any information you may be willing to provide on the following: portals; vortexes; transaction processing. I'm sorry, but none of these technologies fall within the scope of specification work done by our organization. You might want to look at research done by Delphi Consulting Group at http://www.delphigroup.com/ Dave Hollingsworth (WfMC TC Chair)
Sep-00 Development of workflow engine based on the interface 1/2/3 We are currently developing a workflow engine based on interface 1,2,3 specified by WfMC. In the case of implementation of interface 2/3 we have decided to use OMG IDL bindings as suggested in the document. Could you please let us know of other organisations who have got conformance based on the OMG IDL implementation? If none have the specifications mentioned then what do you suggest should be the test procedure for the giving a particular organisation a status of confirmity? We are ready with a beta version of the workflow engine, what will you suggest to do next? If the test procedure for conformance remains the one mentioned in the section "Appendix E: Conformance Profiles" then are we supposed to do a mapping of IDLtoC and then build a C library(according to standard API)? Could you please send some solution for the above mention queries and help us reduce coding work.  I'm afraid we currently do not have any conformance testing service available for the IDL implementation. I can forward to you the list of organisations which were sponsors of the OMG submission, but we have not been able to track how each organisation has progressed in implementation terms. Our work on conformance testing has focussed on Interface 4 initially MIME and subsequently Wf-XML because that is where the market demand lies. Dave Hollingsworth (WfMC TC Chair)
Oct-00 TC 2012 The figures in document TC 2102 do'nt show content. There are only title, creator, and date of these figures. Maybe some errors occur when transforming word document to PDF format. My original copy of TC 2012 (in MS-Word) also has linked graphic objects, not embedded, displayable objects. We will attempt to obtain copies of the original graphic diagrams from Dr. Haruo Hayami. Dave Hollingsworth (WfMC TC Chair)
Oct-00 Interoperability Wf-XML Binding DTD I have been looking at the WfMC document "Interoperability Wf-XML Binding" with a view to adopting the standard for a forthcoming product. Could you tell me if the full DTD is available somewhere? The full DTD is available for download on our web site under Published Documents. Layna Fishcer (General Manager, WfMC)
Oct-00 WfMC standard compliant product I would like to know if Onbase Workflow, from Hyland Software, is a WfMC standard compliant product. It is not listed on the "WfMC - Conformance to Interface Standards" web page. Is there any other way to say that a product is WfMC standard compliant without being in this web page? Vendor conformance is voluntary, and if a vendor elects to not to advise us of their compliance, we have no way of knowing the status of their products.  I would suggest that the quickest way to find out would be to ask them. Michael zur Muehlen who heads up the Conformance Lab, may have additional insights on this company. Layna Fishcer (General Manager, WfMC)
